Te magyar vagy?

This is all about living in this country for more than a year. Experiencing everyday life, people, habits, ways of communication, public transport, language barrier, mentality, differences and similarities, foreign community and survival in the heart of Hungary. Well, if fövaros can be referred as a sziv of a country.

Experiencing incredibly liberal and free of glamour night life (compared to Kiev) and finding 'underground & subculture inspired' places all around the city. This Wednesday 'the main boss' of my company gave me a couple of DVDs made by the potential Ukrainian partner. The DVDs were totally about the anniversary of that partner, a big publishing house. The guys from there just made a 'gangsta' party. With that 20's Chicago, typical old cars and Cuban cigars. Indeed, it just at once recalled all that "Serdyuchka" nightmare from my Ukrainian New Year memories. Going to neighbours, watching stupid TV New Year musicals made in the worst Brazilian soap opera style, wit h lots of Ukrainian and Russian pop and TV stars, glamour and 'marshrutka' chansone [this is a specific notion that needs separate explanation and my allergy to it]. Everything in such shows seems so trivial and vulgar that majority of people just cannot imagine their New Year celebration without that vulgarity. Without a president speaking, fist the Russian one, in an hour a Ukrainian one, champagne, mandarins, sprats and Russian salad [Olivie]. And somebody's face in that salad after some while and some vodka.
Really, those DVDs made me sick. Sick of my unpleasant memories and even more unpleasant possibility of being sent back to Ukraine.

Hearing drunk Hungarians and tourists passing under your window in the 2nd floor at 2 a.m. and cheerful 'wake-up' sounds of the first trolleybuses at 5 a.m.

Dancing csango dances, hanging around with friends, taking pictures in clubs, drinking forralt bor and hating ambulance and police cars alarms.

Getting involved in some projects, meeting new people, searching for opportunities, raising up and falling down emotionally, meeting great and outstanding people, discovering interesting places very other day, still enjoying the bridges, starting to dislike tourists, making some conclusions and observing tendencies...

This is just a start. To be continued...
